A Climate For Art Camp
In April 2024, A Climate For Art and Angharad Wynne-Jones gathered 20 practitioners who we had relationships with from our work from the intersections of climate and art. The aim for the week of Climate Camp was to spend open, non-institutionally focused time to learn from each other and our possibly intersecting interests, build relationships between each other, with no outcome. This felt important as often our thinking becomes constrained and fractured through status quo labour practices.

We used open space methodology to determine the structure of the week, which was modified by the Quarry’s needs, Joe’s ideas, the needs of the group and the weather. The activities spanned listening to podcasts, reading texts, having group conversations, creative looking and writing exercises, swimming, eating, cooking, tours and blackberry whacking.

The Quarry provided a material reminder and grounding for our collective thinking. It also created a type of open relational format that enabled the foundation for a continual group. As our current future trajectory needs drastic rerouting, so do our worldviews and ways of relating. Thinking nearby and with a space of experimental rehabilitation over an irregular, extended time period felt invaluable to practising different modes of belonging.
